PART-TIME & FULL-TIME TEAM SUMMER REQUIREMENTS
AUDITIONS
All dancers (excluding Pearl dancers) must audition each season, regardless of prior placement. Styles include Acro, Contemporary/Lyrical, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Tap. Ballet and Song & Dance are offered separately through solo, duet, and trio opportunities. Dancers learn combinations and demonstrate skills for assessment. Auditions allow us to place dancers where they will be most successful, support exploration of styles, and build balanced, cohesive teams. Placement is based on technique, performance quality, work ethic, and attitude.
SUMMER PROGRAMMING
Summer training plays an essential role in your dancer’s development and well-being. Time completely away followed by a full return in the fall can significantly increase the risk of injury. Summer classes help dancers:
Maintain strength, flexibility, and stamina developed during the season
Reduce injury risk through consistent, supported movement
Arrive in the fall physically prepared for new choreography and workload
Continue progressing in technique rather than repeating early-season recovery
Strengthen existing skills or try new styles.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
We structure our event calendar with one guiding principle: every experience should support dancer growth, confidence, and success while respecting balance and cost.
Competition Season (March–May) | Dancers attend three carefully selected competitions. While we aim to keep events local, we prioritize competitions that align with our studio values: supportive, respectful, and focused on growth. We believe dancers should leave feeling successful in their own progress, regardless of results. When travel is required, we select events that are 1) Typically within 2 hours of Stayner 2) Structured as 3-day events to reduce travel and cost
Optional Performance & Growth Opportunities | We offer optional experiences for dancers who wish to extend their training including optional competitions for solos, duets, and trios, as well as workshops and conventions that support growth.
Winter Showcase (January/February) | Held locally (within approximately 30 minutes of Stayner), Showcase is a one-day event designed to bridge training and competition season. Dancers perform in costume in a theatre-setting prior to competition. A professional adjudicator attends and provides feedback for growth and preparation for competition season. Families are invited to attend this ticketed event. The focus is preparation and confidence.
Year-End Recital (Orillia Opera House) | Our recital is held at the Orillia Opera House and celebrates the hard work of recreational and competitive dancers. To support families and younger dancers, we present one streamlined, organized show with multiple sections for ease and flow with rehearsal completed the morning of the show.
Community Performances | Dancers may also participate in select community events throughout the year, including parades, nursing homes and senior residences, and other community events. These experiences build connection, gratitude, and an understanding of sharing dance beyond the studio.
