WHY CHOOSE THE DANCEROOM FOR YOUR CHILD’S DANCE EXPERIENCE

Choosing a dance studio can be a difficult task! As a parent, your child’s safety and happiness is a priority, as is the quality of dance education they receive. As with purchasing any product, it’s important to do your research! Here are some things to consider!

Sprung Floors: a good dance floor must have shock absorption. A poor floor can cause stress-related injuries on your child such as fractures and irreversible damage to developing dancers. Each of The DanceRoom’s three studio floors are sprung.
Observation Tools: A studio should have nothing to hide! Observation windows or live-feed monitors allow you to see your dancers’ progression. We have cameras in each of our studios linked to a large television in our waiting room so you can watch your dancer in action!

FACILITY:

Uniforms: Inquire as to what colour outfit is required of dancers, if the studio sells these items, and how much an outfit will cost.

Performance fees: There should be no surprise fees for your family! Ask about costuming, recital tickets, photos, recital videography, and registration costs. All of our fees - with the exception of recital tickets - are grouped together to make it easier on your family. Plus our recital video is always a free gift to families!

INSTRUCTORS:

In today’s dance world, versatility is a necessity. Variety in teaching styles and backgrounds provides your dancer with more opportunities and learning experiences.  Our instructors have rich backgrounds in both performance and education, and are able to deliver regulated dance syllabi to your dancer.

REFERRALS:

Speak with trusted parents as to where their child dances, and what they value in the studio they attend. Check Google, Facebook, and the studio’s website for testimonials. Be sure testimonials are recent and coming from real dance families.

SAFETY:

Inquire about age-appropriate choreography and music! We promise these elements will always be age-appropriate at The DanceRoom! Ask when pointe shoes are introduced to dancers. If dancers begin this work before the feet stop growing, permanent damage to the feet can be done.

PROGRAMMING:

Skill levels: A good studio should accommodate beginners who dance for fun, as well as experienced dancers planning for dance at the post-secondary level. The DanceRoom offers classes for recreational and advanced dancers, including non-performative programming, exams, competition, and post-secondary preparation.

Curriculum: Be sure the studio belongs to multiple strong dance organizations who provide quality technical training. Our instructors are proud members of ADAPT, Acro Dance Teachers Association, Acro Dance Adjudicators, Acrobatic Arts, British Association of Teachers of Dancing, Professional Adjudicators Alliance

Focused Classes: Classes focused on a single style allow fo timely progression and rich learning of foundational skills. Our classes focus on one style to allow your dancer to develop safe and technical skills.
